Assembling Atrocity Archives for Syria

Abstract This article provides an ethnographically informed comparative case study of the atrocity archiving work being undertaken by two entities: not-for-profit, civil society organization, Commission for International Justice and Accountability (CIJA), United Nations’ International, Impartial, Independent Mechanism Syria (IIIM). Insights from data collected are read alongside debates within fields international criminal law, transitional justice, archival studies. The argues that this is significance in exploring how lawyers respond to Syrian tragedy, they understand possibilities limitations trials, as well their ethical responsibilities possessing so much sensitive material. example archive, innovative technological approaches it requires, new ways thinking through relationship between evidence, custodianship, legitimacy (possible future) trials.
